Heddels team up with their co-working space buddies, Winter Session and make good use of a few final meters of White Oak denim.
As all dedicated denimheads know, Cone Mills closed their White Oak denim mill in 2017. This meant that there was to be no selvedge denim made in the land that birthed the blue jean. Tragic times! Since then, we have seen various projects popping up that use the final bolts of the White Oak denim. But at some point, we’re sure to run out. Investing in something White Oak would seem prudent if you’re a die-hard denim enthusiast. But what will you cop? You want something you can use and get some serious mileage out of!
Choices choices…
Jeans are an obvious choice for sure. But limited life if you wear them right. A jacket… Yeah, not a bad choice. Will last longer than the jeans, but do you live somewhere you can wear it daily?… It’s a tough decision. Luckily, the boys over a Heddels have something special for us. The Heddels x Winter Session Triple Fade White Oak Denim Garrison Bag.
Let’s break it down
Its a mouthful, that’s for sure. But let’s break it down. Well, Heddels. They are the authority on all things raw denim in the world. Winter Sessions, out of their Northern Denver based workshop they design and manufacture a wide range of functional, high quality, canvas and leather carry goods. The “Triple Fade White Oak Denim” part we’ll come back to in a moment. First, we’ll look at the Garrison Bag. This is a firm favourite of Heddels very own Managing Editor, David Shuck.
“I’ve always been taken by WS’s Garrison Bag silhouette. It just looks so clean and balanced and inviting. It’s a tote bag meets a Filson briefcase but it weighs less, can hold a lot more, there’s a pocket for your water bottle, and it can stand upright.”
Clever choice of materials
Now to the Triple Fade part. You see, Winter Sessions and David have been clever in their choice of materials that go into this collaboration. Made up of a natural 22oz. cotton canvas, 5oz. veg-tanned bridle leather handles and strap, and 11oz. Cone Mills White Oak selvedge denim. They have picked three distinct elements all of which will wear and patina in their own beautiful, individual way.
Once that denim is gone. It’s gone.
Only 20 bags have been produced using the last of that 11oz. Cone Mills White Oak selvedge denim. Once it’s gone, it’s gone. If you’d like to get your hands on one, they’re $269 and available exclusively at the Heddels Shop.
